Founder Heidi D. Collier of the Law Offices of Heidi D. Collier, APLC just received her Certified Family Law Specialist (CFLS) certification for her extraordinary achievements as a family lawyer and her commitment to exceeding the standard licensing requirements of a lawyer in California.
What Is a CFLS?
The State Bar of California’s Board of Legal Specialization grants a special certification status to lawyers who meet certain rigorous requirements in the practice of family law. These lawyers, Certified Family Law Specialists, have proven their expertise in all areas of California family law and must have at least 5 years of experience practicing law in the state. According to the State Bar of California, “the program was intended to provide a method for attorneys to earn the designation of certified specialist in particular areas of law, increasing public protection and encouraging attorney competence.”
What Makes CFLS' Unique?
The barrier to entry for this certification is high and only approximately 178 lawyers in San Diego are Certified Family Law Specialists. With close to 200,000 lawyers in California, only around 1,200 are Certified Family Law Specialists. Only certified specialists can be searched on the State Bar website by practice area, making the certification coveted by lawyers all over the United States.
Clients who choose to work with a CFLS gain access to a legal representative they know understands the ins and outs of family law. Certified Family Law Specialists have extensive legal knowledge and possess extraordinary acumen in at least one niche of family law. Clients who retain a CFLS know that, even by the standards of the California State Bar, they're working with a uniquely talented and experienced lawyer who will provide them with premium services.
Retaining a lawyer is a huge commitment. Depending on your case, you could be putting your future in the hands of your attorney. Working with a CFLS takes some of the guesswork and trepidation out of that process, ensuring you utilize an expert capable of advocating for your rights and pursuing your best interests in and out of the courtroom.
